Wales Flags Details

Display 3x5 Welsh flags on your front porch, at your storefront, or indoors as a wall hanging using these well-made flags. The polyester material is outdoor tested so that it can withstand all kinds of weather without tearing. This is because the fabric is knitted and tear-resistant to suit a variety of locations and elements. The flag design is printed on one side of the polyester material and bleeds through to the other side, allowing the image to be visible from both sides so passersby from all directions can see it. We use a state-of-the-art dye sublimation printing technique, which creates rich, eye-popping colors that will not peel off the fabric. This is because the ink is ingrained into the material rather than printed on top of it. Choose between getting the flag alone or adding a pole set to your order. Get either a handheld pole or a mounted pole set for assembling your flag. Showcase your country pride to your friends and neighbors with a durable Welsh flag for sale.

Welsh Flag History

The flag includes a dragon symbol, which has been used on different Wales flags over the years. A red dragon became a symbol for Wales and the United Kingdom dating back to around 830, eventually becoming known as the Red Dragon of Cadwaladr. Red and golden dragons began showing up on military banners, such as those used by Owain Glyndŵr and the English crown during the Hundred Year War. Henry Tudor, who was of Welsh descent, used the red dragon emblem when he fought Richard III and gained the throne in 1485. The red dragon became a standard of the state and later the Tutor white and green colors were incorporated into the flag rather than the previous red and yellow of the military banners. The modern red dragon on a green mount became the Royal Badge of Wales in 1807. In the 1950s, the motto “The red dragon leads the way” was briefly added to the flag from a poem, but subsequently removed because the rough translation could possibly be a double entendre. The current design became the national flag in 1959 with the classic red dragon and the Tudor colors.

Why Is the Dragon on the Welsh Flag?

The legend of the red Welsh dragon dates to around 830 when Historia Brittonum was written, as well as a prophecy with a white dragon representing the Saxons and the red dragon symbolizing Britons. The dragon also appeared in poetry from the Medieval era, often representing authority. A red dragon began showing up on military banners around the 1400s, becoming associated with Wales when the Welsh House of Tudor brought the symbol to England. This cemented the dragon as a symbol of Wales and why it is used on the Wales flag.
