New York State Flag Details
Show your love for New York with this high-quality New York flag for sale. Our flags are designed for indoor and outdoor display due to their durable materials and print. The flag is made from an outdoor-tested polyester fabric that is able to withstand all season display. This is because the material is weather-resistant and tear-resistant, so the wind, rain, and other elements don’t ruin the fabric. We print the design on one side of the flag and the reverse image bleeds to the other side, making the design visible on both sides. The state flag of New York is printed using a modern dye sublimation method, which ingrains the ink into the fabric to prevent it from scratching or peeling off for long-term use. Easily display your flag on a wall or carry it around by adding either a wall-mounted or handheld flagpole to your order. The grommet finishing on the side easily installs the flag onto the hardware. These NY flags are great for giving your front porch or building window a touch of state pride.

New York Flag History
The New York state flag features the state’s coat of arms. The coat of arms was adopted by New York in 1778. The design might have been inspired by Jonas Bronck, a settler’s coat of arms. This is because Bronck’s also included a rising sun. The use of the sun could have also originated from the duke of York’s badge. The coat of arms design was specified in 1882. The first use of a flag like the current NY state flag was as a military banner during the Revolutionary War. In 1858, a flag featuring the coat of arms was adopted as the state flag, but with a white background rather than blue. A buff color replaced blue in reference to the uniforms worn during the Revolution in 1896. The original dark blue color used for the military banner was restored in 1901 and has remained the color of the flag of New York state.
New York State Flag Meaning
River: The body of water is the Hudson River with the ships on the water referring to the state’s commerce. The river, as well as the surrounding landscape, represent the new world while the rising sun represents the old world.
Liberty: To the left of the shield is Liberty. She stands on a crown to signify freedom from the British rule, which New York was once a colony of.
Justice: To the right of the shield is Justice. She holds scales and a sword to represent the balance of justice and the readiness to fight tyranny.
Eagle on the Globe: Above the shield is the symbol of an eagle standing on a globe. The globe stands for bringing the old and new world together while the eagle refers to the west.
Excelsior: referring to “Ever Upward” or “Still Higher”. Post 2020 New York flags also contain the U.S.’s motto “E Pluribus Unum” below “Excelsior”.
