Kansas State Flag Details
Show how much you love your state my displaying a Kansas flag for sale. The 3x5 size of these flags makes them perfect for a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. These state flags are designed to last due to the high-quality material and print. The flag is made from an outdoor-tested polyester material, which is lightweight and tear-resistant so that different weather conditions don’t ruin the flag. The print also holds up in all kinds of weather because the ink is infused into the fabric through dye sublimation. One side of the material is printed and the mirror image bleeds to the other side, allowing the artwork to be visible from both sides. If you need hardware for installing your flag, include a handheld or wall-mounted pole set with your purchase. The handheld option is for holding the flag during parades and events while the wall-mounted set installs the flag on flat surfaces. Flag of Kansas History
The Kansas flag didn’t debut until 1925 when it was used for a 4th of July parade in Lincoln. Hazel Avery designed the state flag of Kansas, and it was adopted by the state government two years later. The Kansas state flag was first officially used by the troops at North Riley and for the Kansas National Guard in 1927. Between the time when the flag was first designed and when it was first adopted, a state banner was used instead. This was similar to the state flag, except it was hung horizontally rather than vertically to make it stand out. Washington D.C. rejected the state banner because of its awkward hang, so it was modified to hang like other state flags. The 1927 flag didn’t have the word “Kansas”. The modern design of the state flag with the addition of “Kansas” was adopted in 1961 when the state wanted their flag to be easier to identify.
Kansas Flag Meaning
Sunflower: The sunflower is the Kansas state flower. It was adopted in 1903.
State Seal: The history of Kansas and pioneer life is told through the seal. There’s a landscape with a river and steamboat to represent the state’s commerce. Agriculture is symbolized with the cabin and plow. American expansion is represented by the wagon train heading west. There are 34 stars at the top to stand for Kansas being the 34th state of the Union. There’s also the state motto in Latin, which translates to “To the Stars through Difficulties”.
“Kansas”: This was added in 1961 to differentiate the Kansas state flag from other, similarly designed state flags and to make it easily identifiable.
