Japan Flag Details
Show pride in your country by setting up a Japanese flag for sale in front of your home or business. Our flags were designed for indoor and outdoor use due to their durability. The flags are made from outdoor-tested polyester, which is knitted for tear resistance and fray resistance. We print the flag using a modern dye sublimation method, which ingrains the ink into the fabric for striking colors that won’t peel off. No matter the weather, the flag and print will not get ruined. We also save on printing costs by printing the design on one side and having it bleed through to the other side, a common practice for country flags. This layout allows the graphic to be visible from both sides. If you need to assemble your flag with a pole, add on either a handheld or wall mounted pole set to your order. The grommets on the side allow for simple installation. These flags are the ideal addition to any setting or national celebration.

Japan Flag History
The Japanese flag is referred to as “flag of sun” or “circle of the sun”. Japan is known as “the land of the rising sun”, so its symbolic meaning goes far back. Suns have been used on national flags for centuries, such as in battle flags. The sun imagery developed in the flags over time, eventually becoming the version used today. In 1854, Japan was required to use the “circle of the sun” flag on their ships to differentiate them from other countries. This is because around this time Japan began having more relations with foreign countries. The flag became the merchant flag of Japan, which led to it becoming the national flag in 1870. The “circle of the sun” flag or the Hinomaru was still Japan’s flag throughout WWII and the U.S. occupation. Because of the flag’s involvement in WWII, it has been criticized since then, especially by the Chinese and South Korean governments, but a law was created in 1999 making the flag the national symbol of Japan.
Japan Flag Meaning
Red: Combining red and white is seen as joyous in Japan, with red historically being known as “sacred” for a scared-profane dichotomy.
White: The use of white in the background contrasts with the bright red and traditionally stands for “profane” in part of the sacred-profane dichotomy.
Sun: The sun has appeared in Japanese mythology, religion, and culture for centuries. This is because the emperor is said to be the descendent of Amaterasu, the sun goddess. The use of the sun imagery in the Japanese flag refers to Japan’s nickname, Land of the Rising Sun.
