Illinois State Flag Details
Carry your state flag in a parade or display it in front of your home with a Illinois flag for sale. Place these flags in both indoor and outdoor locations due to the long-lasting print and material. Our state of Illinois flags are made from a durable outdoor polyester, which is lightweight and tear-resistant to hold up in the elements. We print the state flag design on one side of the material, and it bleeds through to the other side, allowing the artwork to be visible from both sides without adding extra weight and costs. The dye sublimation printing inserts the ink into the fabric so that it won’t scratch or peel off, making it perfect for long term outdoor use. Simply install your IL state flag using either a handheld flagpole for parades or a wall mounted pole set for front porches. Use the grommet finishing on the side to easily assemble your flag. Give a room, porch, or landscape the perfect touch with these IL flags.

Illinois State Flag History
The campaign for an Illinois flag began in 1912 with the Daughters of the American Revolution. A contest was created by the DAR for a state flag design in 1914. The Secretary of State, Lewis Stevenson, chose the design that featured the state seal, which was adopted in 1868. It passed the house and senate to become the state flag in 1915. The flag included only the seal for a long time until, in 1969, Chief Petty Officer Bruce McDaniel wanted to add “Illinois” to the design. This was because a lot of people he met during the Vietnam War did not recognize the flag. The revision was signed into law in 1969 and was made official in 1970.
Illinois Flag Meaning
State Seal: When a seal was originally created in 1819, it was very close to the United States Seal. It was redesigned in 1868 to differentiate from the national seal. Its design features a bald eagle standing on a rock with a shield below it and a state motto banner in its beak. The shield features thirteen stars and stripes to signify the original colonies. 1818 and 1868 are on the rock. 1818 is when Illinois became a state and 1868 is when the current seal was adopted. The motto on the banner reads, “State, Sovereignty, National Union”.
Illinois: The addition of the name of the state at the bottom was added in 1969. It is to differentiate the Illinois state flag from other state flags.
