French Flags Details
Let all passersby see your love for France when walking or driving past your home or business with these 3x5 French flags. Our flags are made to last due to the durable material and modern printing method. The flag is made from outdoor polyester, which is knitted and tear-resistant to withstand all weather conditions. We print the design on one side of the material and the reverse image bleeds through to the other side, saving you on printing. We use a state-of-the-art dye sublimation technique, which infuses the ink into the fabric rather than recreating the image on top of the material. This results in striking colors that will not scratch or peel off the polyester. Get the flag alone or add on a pole set to your order. Select either a handheld pole or a mounted pole set for assembling your flag. Grommets are included on the side of the flag for simple installation. These French flags for sale are the perfect addition to any home or storefront.

The History of the French Flag
Before the current design of the France flag, most French flags had fleur-de-lis designs. During the Middle Ages, the flag of St. Denis was used, also known as the Oriflamme. This red banner was changed to the fleur-de-lis design with blue and gold in the 1300s. This was taken from the coat of arms of the House of Valois. The red, yellow, and blue colors continued to be used by France. During the Hundred Year War, a red cross was used. Joan of Arc’s use of white on her banner during the Hundred Year War also led to white being featured on later French flag designs. The tricolor design was quite different from the previous fleur-de-lis designs used during the Capetian Dynasty or the Bourbon flag used from the 1500s to the 1800s. The tricolor comes from the cockade used by the French during the revolution. Because blue and red were traditional colors associated with France, and used on France’s coat of arms, they were often worn by the Paris militia. In addition to the blue and white colors, a white stripe was later added by Lafayette to the design. The tricolor stripes were approved in 1790 and the current blue-white-red design of the flag was passed in 1794. There were some attempts over the next years to replace the tricolor flag with a pre-revolutionary white flag, but the tricolor design always returned.
France Flag Colors
Blue: Associated with the Virgin Mary, the patroness of France, and the Oriflamme flag. The blue is also said to represent class, freedom from the revolutionary motto, and cornflowers.
Red: The red color is also connected to the Virgin Mary and the Oriflamme flag. The middle red stripe also represents nobility, brotherhood from the revolutionary motto, and poppies.
White: Lafayette added white to the flag to make it more neutralized. Lafayette intended the white to represent the nation, but it has also been seen as symbolizing the monarchy. It has also been associated with the clergy, equality from the revolutionary motto, and marguerites.
