Maryland State Flag Details
Find the perfect flag for the front of your home, business, or event with this Maryland flag for sale. These well-made state of Maryland flags last longer compared to others due to the durable material and print. The flag is made from outdoor-tested polyester material, which is lightweight and knitted for tear-resistance, making it ideal for outdoor display. The print is recreated using a dye sublimation method, which ingrains the ink into the fabric to prevent the colors from scratching or peeling off. The colorful design is printed on one side of the material and bleeds through to the other side to save you extra printing costs. Choose between adding a pole mounted set or a hand-held flagpole kit to your order. Both options are great for indoor and outdoor use and are easily installed. The flag is finished with grommets on the side for assembling on pole hardware. Let your friends and neighbors see your state pride by showcasing MD flags at your home or business.

Maryland Flag History
The colony of Maryland was founded by the 1st Baron Baltimore, who used his black and gold banner of arms to represent the state. The red and white Crossland banner became popular around the Civil War when some members of the state joined the Confederacy as they were seen as secession colors. Soldiers for the Union would use the black and gold colors while soldiers for the Confederacy wore the red and white colors. After the Civil War, the flag designed with both the Baltimore banner of arms and the Crossland banner was seen. The combination of the Baron Baltimore and Crossland banners was seen as a reunion of the state’s citizens, especially after the Civil War when much of the state was previously divided. The MD state flag was flown in Baltimore in 1880 for the city’s 150th anniversary and for a Civil War ceremony on the Gettysburg battlefield in 1888. While the flag was seen at several events, it was not officially adopted as the Maryland state flag until 1904.
Maryland Flag Meaning
Lord Baltimore’s Banner: The black and gold colors were on the arms of the 1st Baron Baltimore (or the Calvert family). The bars were meant to represent the bars of a palisade from a battle.
Crossland Banner: The Crossland family coat of arms, who were the family of Lord Baltimore’s mother. Lord Baltimore was allowed to use both the Baltimore banner and the Crossland banner in his coat of arms.
