History of In This House Signs

This In This Household We Believe sign has become increasingly popular over the past few years, but what is its history? The first sign was created in Wisconsin by librarian Kristin Garvey. She gathered quotes from activists after the 2016 election, writing them down on poster board and securing it in her lawn. It gained attention on the internet after someone posted a picture of it and businesses began selling the sign with different fonts and colors. The proceeds Garvey received from her sign went to the Wisconsin Alliance for Women’s Health. This yard sign has since been associated with the #resistance movement and has continued to be seen in front lawns across the country. The progressive statements on the sign read, “In This House, We Believe: Black Lives Matter, Women’s Rights Are Human Rights, No Human Is Illegal, Science Is Real, Love Is Love, Kindness Is Everything”.
