Delaware State Flag Details
Show your devotion to the First State by setting up this Delaware state flag in front of your home or building. This flag was designed for extended use due to the durable polyester fabric. The knitted material handles the wear and tear of outdoor weather, preventing the flag from ripping. We print the state flag design on one side of the material and the mirror image bleeds through to the other side. This is the common printing technique for state and country flags. This also saves you on printing costs and makes the image visible from both sides. Choose between several hardware options for installing your flag. We offer a handheld flagpole for walking in parades or a wall-mounted pole for securing the state of Delaware flag to walls. Our well-made Delaware flag for sale is created in the standard 3x5 size, making it easy to see by passersby so that it’s the perfect addition to your yard or business.

Delaware Flag History
While Delaware was the first state of the Union, the state flag was not officially adopted until 1913. Delaware had colors associated with the state since the Revolutionary War, but no official state flag. The coat of arms of the DE flag dates to 1777 while a flag being used with the coat of arms and blue background dates to the Civil War. This probably helped the design become associated with the state. While the origins of the state flag of Delaware are from the Civil War, the flag incorporates some symbolism of the Revolutionary War, such as the colors and a soldier in the coat of arms.
Delaware Flag Meaning
Coat of Arms: The shield in the coat of arms has references to Delaware’s agriculture with wheat, corn, and an ox on grass. Commerce of the state is also represented with the ship on top of the shield. A soldier and a farmer bookend the shield and the state motto “Liberty and independence” is below the emblem. All of this is located inside the buff diamond, which has unknown symbolism. It may have been chosen because it was unique.
Colonial Blue and Buff: Both colors on the Delaware state flag are representative of George Washington’s uniform. The Continental military had uniforms of blue with buff facings. These are also the state colors of Delaware.
December 7, 1787: This represents the date that Delaware became the first state of the Union, as they were the first state to ratify the Constitution.
